IPEC Technical Sales Representative Tommy Brunty On the Ideal Applications for Containerized Admix Dispensers Systems

Containerized admix dispenser systems are nothing new, especially in the concrete industry. But the need for increasingly mobile, flexible, and efficient concrete batching processes makes containersized dispenser systems extremely valuable.

The highly customizable nature of containerized admix dispenser systems also makes them ideal for a variety of unique or challenging deployments – especially those where dirt, dust, or other airborne particles can cause equipment failures. IPEC Technical Sales Representative Tommy Brunty believes this is a large reason why concrete producers are implementing a containerized solution.

In this interview, Brunty discusses the pros and cons of a containerized admix system, the questions concrete producers have about a containersized system, and how IPEC can help producers craft a custom containerized solution for increased productivity and efficiency.

containerized admix dispenser systems are not necessarily new, but they are seeing an increase in demand and popularity. why?

This kind of admix dispenser system has been around for quite some time, but the increase in interest — especially in the concrete production space — likely stems from a couple of factors. The increase in more complex concrete batching jobs and applications means engineers need more flexible, versatile dispensing systems — this helps producers create a more strategic, cost-effective approach to the admix dispensing process, which is key to creating a workable, durable final product.

Containerized admix dispensing systems also offer a more environmentally friendly, customizable alternative to older or outdated batching facilities and equipment. A containerized system can be designed to more precise production specifications, and the container itself helps reduce a variety of environmental risks, especially in the transportation of equipment and admix chemicals.

what are some common or ideal applications for a containerized admixture system?

Containerized dispenser systems are used for dispensing liquids, additives, and/or chemicals that are required in many industrial processes, especially concrete. A containerized admix dispenser system is a mobile, hands-free approach that essentially acts as a mini and mobile concrete plant. This hands-free approach is a more automated kind of operation that can be monitored and adjusted from a control room or batch office.

This makes containerized dispenser systems ideal for both on-site or mobile concrete production where a more permanent, stationary batching infrastructure just isn’t viable.

An example of this would be concrete needed in the construction of a bridge, as the ability to move concrete batching would allow for more efficient construction.

Another example would be bulk dispensing systems for larger companies doing mass concrete production. These systems can be used to dispense bulk quantities of specific materials like chemicals or additives, often integrated into batching or mixing systems which allow customers to streamline production and reduce manual labor or errors associated with smaller, manual dispensing systems.

what are some pros and cons of a containerized admix system?

The pros of a containerized admix system far outweigh the cons, but it is important to acknowledge that a containerized solution may not be the right choice for every application or concrete manufacturer. A containerized solution does pose increased transportation and logistics costs given the size of the container though the total cost of ownership is often less compared to other types of dispensing systems.

These types of solutions have a somewhat limited capacity, and they may not be the ideal choice for large-scale batching.

The benefits of a containerized solution hinge primarily on the mobility and flexibility, though there are a variety of associated benefits as well. First, a containerized admix system can accelerate your speed to market via rapid set up and onboarding. Plus, containerized admix systems can be seamlessly integrated with automated dispensing equipment to enhance dosing precision and reduce error-prone manual processes.

Containerized admixture systems can also be more quickly and easily scaled compared to fixed concrete batching systems, and a containerized system helps enhance process safety by reducing the likelihood of chemical spills or the exposure of environmentally harmful chemicals. This can be very useful for some companies because they are able to store, dispense, and distribute these harmful chemicals safely and efficiently by reducing risk of spills, exposure, or improper mixing.
